The Jacobs Multiple Sclerosis Center for Treatment and Research (JMSCTR) is a designated Center for Comprehensive MS Care by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and is a member of the U.S. Consortium of MS Centers. We provide state-of-the-art and personalized care for the optimal management of multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system in both Buffalo, NY and Williamsville, NY. Our program includes a full range of patient services and also actively develops and leads research that advances our understanding and management of these diseases.

The JMSCTR recognizes the significant contributions of the late, Dr. Lawrence D. Jacobs, former Chairman of the Department of Neurology and world-renowned for his pioneering research that led to the first disease modifying therapy (DMT) for Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

What is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease in which the immune system attacks the protective covering of nerves, resulting in nerve damage that disrupts communication between the brain and the body.

MS can cause many different symptoms, including vision loss, pain, fatigue, and impaired coordination. The symptoms, severity and duration can vary from person to person, i.e. some people may be symptom free most of their lives, while others can have chronic symptoms. Significant progress has been made in managing MS with new insights on factors impacting progression.

In addition, we also see patients with:

  • Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD)

  • Myelin oligodendrocyte associated diseases (MOAD)

  • Autoimmune encephalitis

  • Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis
